Each of the dedicated physicians at Adult and Pediatric Urologists of Northern Virginia are certified by the American Board of Urology. While each has his own unique background, they all are highly qualified to care for your needs. John W. Klousia, M.D., F.A.C.S.Dr. John Klousia earned his undergraduate degree in bacteriology from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa and his MD from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed post-graduate training as a clinical extern at the National Neurological Institute in London. He was a resident at the University of Miami Hospitals (surgery); George Washington Medical Center, Washington, D.C. (Urology); and Division of Neurological Disease and Stroke, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland (research assistant). Dr. Klousia is certified by the American Board of Urology and holds certifications for the following procedures: collagen injection, laser application in urology, extra corporeal shock wave lithotripsy, brachytherapy for prostate cancer, transurethral microwave thermo therapy, prostatron, hand assisted laparoscopic surgery, TVT, and cryosurgery. Dr. Klousia is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has been rated a Top Doctor for ten years by Washingtonian Magazine. He has served on the following boards and committees:
George W. Tawil, M.D., F.A.C.S.Dr. George Tawil is assistant professor at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He graduated from the medical school at the American University of Beirut with an MD. He did his Residency in surgery and urology at the Washington Hospital Center, and a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer center. Dr. George Tawil is certified by the American Board of Urology and holds certifications for the following procedures: advance male urethral sling, collagen injection, laser application in urology, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, brachytherapy for prostate cancer, transurethral microwave thermo therapy, prostatron, hand assisted laparoscopic surgery, TVT, and cryosurgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Tawil has been involved, as a primary investigator, in clinical research and studies for the last 15 years in such topics as prostate cancer, erectile dysfunction, and urinary incontinence. Dr. Tawil is a member of Physicians for Peace with whom he travels to underdeveloped countries to perform surgery, teach and lecture. He has also been invited as a visiting professor to cancer centers overseas. At present, Dr Tawil is President elect of the Medical Staff at Inova Alexandria Hospital and Chair of the Credentials committee. He served as the Chair of the Medical Affairs Council of the Inova Healthcare System, and was a member of the Inova Healthsystem Board of Trustees (2008-2009). Dr Tawil also served as President of the Medical Staff at Inova Alexandria Hospital (2006-2007), Chair of the Quality council (2005-2006), and Chair of the Department of Surgery (2000-2005). Dr. Tawil is featured in Washingtonian Magazine’s 2010 Best Doctors issue. Yousef H. Salem, M.D., F.A.C.S.Dr. Yousef Salem is clinical assistant professor at George Washington University Medical Center, Washington, DC (since 1995) and is chairman, department of surgery, INOVA Alexandria Hospital, Virginia (since 2005). He served as secretary, department of surgery, INOVA Alexandria Hospital, Virginia, 1997-2004; and chief, department of urology, INOVA Alexandria Hospital, Virginia, 1994-2006. Dr. Salem attended medical school at the State University of New York and served as resident at the George Washington University Medical Center, Washington D.C. (urology and general surgery). He is certified by the American Board of Urology and holds certifications for the following procedures: collagen injection, laser application in urology, extra corporeal shock wave lithotripsy, brachytherapy for prostate cancer, transurethral microwave thermo therapy, prostatron, hand assisted laparoscopic surgery, TVT, cryosurgery, green light laser ablation of prostate, holmium laser evaporation of prostate, and laparoscopic & hand-assisted nephrectomy surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His awards include first place in clinical research, Mid-Atlantic section, American Urological Association and third place in clinical research, Residents Scholars Conference, the Washington Urological Society. Dr. Salem has traveled as a medical consultant and lectured at various medical centers in the Middle East. He has published many articles on bladder and kidney cancer and has been involved in multiple clinical trials in the treatment of prostate enlargement, urinary incontinence, and erectile dysfunction.
