Dr. Michael R. Hardy

Dr. Hardy received his undergraduate degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY in 1967. He served in Germany and Vietnam, and upon his return, attending the University Of Miami School Of Medicine, graduating in 1978. After completing his urology residency in the military, he served at Fort Belvoir from 1983-1984, and Walter Reed Army Medical Center from 1984 to 1987. He retired after twenty years of service as the Assistant Chief of Urology and entered private practice in Northern Virginia. At Walter Reed he assisted in numerous research protocols in prostate, bladder and testicular cancers. His main practice interests are urological oncology and diseases of the prostate. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Urology.

Dr. Hardy has been active in many physician leadership activities within the INOVA Health System. He served on the Executive Committee of INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital from 1988 to 1989 and then as President of the Medical Staff from 1998 to 2000. He is also a trustee of the INOVA Health System Board. In addition he has participated in two medical missions to Haiti.

He is married to Dr. Shanon Hardy who is an adjunct professor at George Madison University. They have two daughters, a medical student and a lawyer working for her Ph.D.

Dr. Robert R. Hart

Dr. Hart received his undergraduate degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. He then earned his medical doctorate form Indiana University in 1986. Both his surgical and urological training were completed at George Washington University Hospital. Upon completion in 1992 he went into private practice. The American Board of Urology certified him in 1994 in both adult and pediatric urology.

Dr. Hart holds privileges at INOVA Fair Oaks, INOVA Fairfax and Reston Hospital. He is actively involved in training of the urology residents at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. He served as the Chief of Urology at INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital from 2000-2002. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He also holds memberships in the American Urological Association, Fairfax Medical Society and Washington Urological Society. He served as President of the Washington Urological Society from 2001-2002.

Dr. Hart has particular interest in urological oncology, BPH, urinary incontinence, kidney stones, and urinary tract infections.

He has surgical experience in nerve sparing radical prostatectomy, vaginal sling for urinary incontinence (TVT), ureteroscopy, laser lithotripsy and ESWL in addition to minimally invasive management of BPH.

Dr. Anthony R. Vara

Dr. Vara received his undergraduate education at Fordham University in New York and obtained his Baccalaureate Degree cum laude in 1979. He then earned his Medical Doctorate from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1985. Both his surgical and urological training were completed at the University of California at Irvine from 1985 through 1991. The American Board of Urology certified him in 1993 in both adult and pediatric urology.

Upon his return to the Washington Metropolitan area in the summer of 1991, he joined the practice of a retiring Urologist in Springfield, Virginia, and then incorporated his practice in 1994 at the Woodburn Medical Complex, in Annandale.

Dr. Vara presently holds privileges at INOVA Fairfax, INOVA Fair Oaks and Reston Hospital and is also an Associate Professor at George Washington School of Medicine. He is a member in good standing with the American College of Surgeons, American Urological Association, Fairfax County Medical Society and Washington Urological Society.

Dr. Vara is experienced in all aspects of Urology and Genitourinary Surgery, with particular interest in Urological Cancer, Incontinence and Male Sexual Dysfunction. Other services offered include "Shock Wave" (ESWL) and Laser Lithotripsy for kindey stone disease and Vaginal Slings (TVT) for female stress urinary Incontinence. Office procedures include Cystoscopies, Prostate Biopsies and Prostate, Kidney and Bladder Ultrasonography.
